   CELEBRITIES AND THEIR FIRST HISTORY


Like the adage goes; "there is always a first time to something", even Jesus, upon his greater powers, Prophets like Jeremiah, Issiah all came prior to his arrival. This means that in every event of life there must be a pacesetter who will do his part to moltivate the follower.

Below are some Ghanaian celebrities and some things they did first before anybody else in the entertainment industry.


●The first Ghanaian based musician to get nomination at the Black Entertainment Television Awards(BET)-Kwadwo Antwi (2010)
Kojo Antwi, born Julius Kojo Antwi, with 13 siblings, grew in Darkuman,Accra. Also known as "Mr. Music Man", is a Ghanaian Afro pop, highlife and reggae artiste with 22 albums.


●The first Ghanaian based rapper to be nominated at the BET - D.Black (2011)
Born Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, (born 12 January 1986) now metamorphosed to D-Black, the owner of  Black Avenue Music Record Label is a Ghanaian hip-hop artiste.

●The first African rapper to win BET Internatinal act - Dizzee Rascal(Ghana and Nigeria descent. 2010)

Dizzee Rascal, born Dlyan Kwabena Mills is a UK based Ghanaian/Nigerian  rapper, and a singer with African parents, Nigerian(father) and Ghanaian(mother) respectively. He was born on 18th september 1984, the first African to win the BET international act category. As at that time, the international act UK and that of Africa were  in the same category(2010). That was the first time both Categories were added to the BET awards list.


               SARKODIE

●The first Ghanaian artiste to win BET African Act category-Sarkodie(2012)
●The musician with more VGMA awards-(18 awards from 2010 to 2016)
Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, (born July 10, 1998) is a Ghanaian hip hop/hip life  artiste who resides in Tema. He is the first Ghanaian based artiste to win BET, and currently toping the Vodafone Ghana Music Award winners list with 18 awards.



●The first African artiste to win the BET "African lnternational Act (2face, D.banj 2011)
Innocent Ujah Idibia (born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria), better known by his stage name 2face Idibia, or 2Baba, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, record producer.

Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo (born 9 June 1980), known by his stage name D'banj, is a Nigerian songwriter and singer.

These two were the first Africans to have won the BET African Act International Award after it was seperated from "Internatinal Act UK" category  in 2011.



              STONEBWOY
●The first African Dancehall artiste to win BET African International Act (automatically the first Ghanaian to win-2015)
Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla is a Ghanaian afropop, dancehall and reggae artiste. The 5th March, 1988 born was the first African Dancehall artiste to win the BET African Act Category in 2015, the same year he won the VGMA Artiste of the year.
●The artiste with the most BASS awards-stonebwoy(11 awards)
After winning 1 and 2, in 2013 and 2014 respectively, he secured 6 more in the 2015 edition and another 3 in the just ended 2016 BASS Awards.




●The first Female Ghanaian artiste to get BET nomination -Mzvee(Best New Internatinal artiste 2015, and African International Act,2016)

Mzvee, born Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda ( 23 June 1992) is a Ghanaian dancehall, afropop and R&B artiste signed by Lynx Entertainment. She was the first Female Artiste to represent Ghana at BET, in 2015 and 2016 upon her nomination.

●The first Ghanaian Dancehall musician to win the VGMA artiste of the year - Samini(2007)
Emmanuel Andrews Samini, a name given to him by his parents, (born on 22 December 1981 in Accra), known in the music industry as Samini, formerly "Batman. He is a Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall, hiplife recording artiste and the founder of High Grade Label.
In 2007 He became the first Dancehall Musician to win the VGMA artiste of the year with an album dubbed "Dagaati"

●The first Ghanaian to win the VGMA artiste of the year category -Akyeame (1999 then GMA)automatically the first music group to have won that category.
Akyeame was made up of Okyeame Quame (Quame Nsiah Appau) and Okyeame Quophi (Daniel Quophi Amoateng). Okyeame Kwame has now gone solo, and Okyeame Quophi, now a full time producer.This Duo in 1999 Awards, a ceremony which is not recognised in the Ghana Music Awards List, became the first Duo, and artiste to win the "Artiste of the year category"
 Why that particular year's event(GMA) is not been recognised is a question one must ask the board. Fortunately, Okyeame Kwame, a former member of the Akyeame group, in his wikipedia profile indicates that a ceremony was held during that time(1999).


●The first High life artiste to have won the Artiste of the year(2000)
Daddy Lumba (born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, 29 September 1964) is Ghanaian singer from Nsuta in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.  He was part of the "Lumba Brothers, a group Nana Acheampong was part until they finally seperated. In the year 2000 he became the GMA Artiste of the year award.


                 ROCKY DAWUNI
●The first Ghanaian to be nominated at GRAMMY awards - (2015)
●The first Ghanaian musician whos song was featured in the popular EA sports games -(2011) Rocky Dawuni is a GRAMMY nominated Ghanaian singer and songwriter who records Reggae, Afrobeat.
Born on January 22, 1969 (age 48), has six albums.
In 2015 he became the first Ghanaian to get a nomination slot at The annual Grammophone awards (GRAMMIES). His songs have also been featured in the popular EA games, making him the first Ghanaian to enjoy that privilage.



          OKYEAME KWAME
●The first Ghanaian artiste to perform at Apollo,USA.
●The first Ghanaian artiste to get the keys to Cincinati -Okyeame Kwame (2016) This means Okyeame Kwame has unlimited entry to Cincinata USA, an opportunity given to him by the mayor of Cincinati.
Okyeame Kwame, born Kwame Nsiah Apau (17 April 1976), is a creative director,songwriter, rapper and a performer.

●The artiste to first win the VGMA artiste of the year twice -VVIP (2004, 2011)
VVIP,  known then as VIP (Vision In Progress) is a Ghanaian Hiplife music group consisting Reggie Rockstone (Reginald Ossei), Prodigal (Joseph Nana Ofori), and Zeal, known then as Lazzy (Abdul Hamid Ibrahim).
Promzy, Bone, chicago and friction are former members of the group. In 2004 and 2011, they were awarded the "Artiste of the year,
Promzy,the former member was part in securing all these two awards in the absence of Reggie Rockstone.

●The first Ghanaian solo rapper to win  VGMA artiste of the year -Lord Kenya(2002, GMA then)
Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo is his real name, known on  stage as Lord Kenya,born on September 19, 1978.

●The first celebrity to hit 1000,000 likes on facebook - John Dumelo
John Dumelo (born 3 February 1984) is a Ghanaian actor from the Volta Region. On 1 April 2014, he became the first Ghanaian celebrity, and a citizen of course to hit a million likes on Facebook.

●Kwame Sefa Kai was the first person to host the Ghana Music Awards (2000)
Kwami Sefa Kayi is a Ghanaian broadcast journalist who on Peace FM, host the “Kokrokoo” morning show. He happens to be the first gentleman to ever host the Ghana Music Awards

●The First artiste to award his fans - Shata Wale.

Shata Wale, fomerly "bandana, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah jnr,( on 17 October 1984), is a Ghanaian dancehall, afrobeat musician, and a producer. On 31 december 2016, at the Juntion Mall, the Artiste became the first of his fellows to award loyal fans with gadgets such as laptops, Iphones and above it all, a "Corolla S  Vehicle to his most loyal fan.
